Shirmoney Rhode

Shirmoney Rhode is in 1991 gebore en het grootgeword op die Kaapse Vlakte in Elsiesrivier. Sy verwerf die kwalifikasies BA (Afrikaans en Linguistiek), BA (Honneurs) in Afrikaans en ʼn nagraadse onderwyssertifikaat in Afrikaans aan die Universiteit van Wes-Kaapland. Haar gedigte het al in 7de Reënboog verskyn en as performance poet het sy al voordrag op verskillende platforms soos Open Book Festival, Inzync Poetry, Grounding Session, Badilisha Poetry, Poetica, KKNK, Artsemble en meer gedoen. In haar werk vertel sy graag die stories van die mense uit haar gemeenskap. As onderwyser gee sy klas in Afrikaans by ʼn Kaapstadse hoërskool. Haar eerste digbundel, Nomme 20 Delphistraat is gepubliseer deur Modjaji Books.

 

Shirmoney Rhode is a writer and performance poet who grew up on the Cape Flats in Elsies River. She completed her BA, BA-Hon (Afrikaans) and PGCE at the University Of the Western Cape. She predominantly writes in Kaapse Afrikaans, which is the dialect of Afrikaans spoken in the Western Cape. She started writing at the age of 13. She is passionate about telling the stories of people in her community and performs her work on different platforms in Cape Town. She is the author of a collection of poetry, Nomme 20 Delphi Straat and she has performed her work on different platforms in South Africa. She currently teaches Afrikaans at Claremont High School in Cape Town.
