Modjaji not opening for poetry submissions in 2019

We will open submissions in March this year, but won’t be taking poetry submissions this year. We still have a number of poets from our last open submission period whose work we still want to publish.

We are proud of our track record in publishing poetry, we have published over 40 collections in 11 years, including an Afrikaans collection, one which included some Hebrew versions of the poems, and several collections that included Afrikaans and English and one even had German poems in it. Our poets have won 3 Ingrid Jonker prizes, several SALA awards, a UJ debut prize and have been shortlisted for a number of awards and received special mentions. One of our poets, Phillippa yaa de Villiers, was nominated as the Commonwealth Poet for 2015. Their work has been published widely in literary magazines both here and internationally and some of them have gone onto be published by other poetry presses. This year we will be bringing out a special collection of Modjaji poets over the past 11 years. Look out for it towards the second half of the year.

In the meantime you can try some of the other poetry presses, Deep South, Uhlanga, Dryad Press, imphepho to name some of them. And don’t forget to buy poetry collections, and to subscribe to literary magazines, like New Contrast, New Coin, Prufrock, stanzas, Ons Klyntjie are the ones I can think of. Good luck with your submissions.
